Quiltology II Cross Stitch Pattern

Another summer month has started so it’s time for a new cross stitch pattern from the Quiltology trio, introducing Quiltology II!

I’m back with another round of quilting terms, 13 total, and all different from Quiltology 1.

While it varies from the first, it’s also is the same because it uses the DMC floss colors from Quiltology I and showcases a great variety of fun letterings…and I think this one is my favorite.

It also finishes at 4 5/8″ W x 3 3/8″ H (stitched on 14 count Aida cross stitch fabric) making it a perfect fit for a standard 5″ x 7″ frame, again no need for custom framing!

Don’t know how to get that professional look? No worries, follow my tutorial here and do it like the pros. 😉

I’ve got a new quilt pattern in the works and another publication coming up, but, in the meantime it’s nice to have portable projects like cross stitch to take along to games, on car rides, out on the patio, and anywhere else you feel like stitching.

Get a copy today from my Etsy shop and make it your way by using all your favorite colors.

Quiltology I Cross Stitch Pattern

A few months back when I released my Love to Quilt cross stitch pattern, I’d mentioned that I had new quilting-related cross stitch patterns in the making. I’ve finished designing all three of them, and am now releasing the first of the series entitled Quiltology.

I’ve taken several quilting terms and cross stitched them into three separate works. Quiltology I is first up and is now for sale in my Etsy shop.

Quiltology I, II and III all showcase different quilting terminology, hence the name Quiltology!

The first in the series has 12 different terms, stitched in 12 different letterings and colors. It’s as easy as combining your favorite floss colors and making it you.

As a bonus, Quiltology I finishes at 5 5/8″ W x 3 3/8″ H (stitched on 14 count Aida cross stitch fabric) making it a perfect fit for a standard 5″ x 7″ frame—so no need for custom framing.

Like my other cross stitch patterns, this one is also suitable for all skill levels.

I’m very excited about this trilogy and hope you enjoy them as much as I did creating and stitching them!

Winter Woodlands Finish

In November last year I was so eager to release my Winter Woodlands quilt that I did so before it was completely finished. The pattern cover photo is just the quilt top, but now that it’s professionally quilted and a completed quilt, I’ve got a new cover shot for the pattern.

As I normally do, I had it quilted with thread that blends into the background; in this case, white. The edge-to-edge quilting motif is Becker’s Winter Wonderland by Urban Elementz.

The snowflakes are really detailed and are perfect for this treed pattern. I especially like how they are ‘correct’ snowflakes, having 6 points. I see a lot of 8 pointed snowflakes out there, but, ummm, they’re not right! And I’m speaking from decades of living in a snowbelt region. 😉

Because this pattern is designed for 2 1/2″ strips, I used strips from the jelly roll for the binding. It’s a nice transition from print to print, which coordinates well with the stripey trees.

The backing is a really fun print called Frosty Merry Mints by Wilmington Prints. I just love these snowman gents! The quilt top fabrics are Bella Solid White and Moda’s Merry Little Christmas by Bonnie and Camille.

Winter Woodlands is a one size throw quilt pattern and is great for the confident beginner quilter. And in celebration of my finish, I’m offering the pattern 20% off for the entire week.

It honestly doesn’t take too long to make as it’s a cozy size (55″ x 60 ½”) and it’s an excellent choice for the holidays and chilly winter nights!

Love to Sew Cross Stitch Pattern

Well, I really don’t know how I did it, but after creating this pattern 4 years ago (when I returned to cross stitching), I took photos, etc. but somehow managed to *not* post it.

I wonder whether or not I wrote a blog post about it, forgot about it, deleted it, or what…but the pattern is now for sale in my Etsy shop. Better late than never, as it’s said.

So, here it is, my Love to Sew cross stitch pattern…

Back in 2020, I wanted to combine by love of sewing with my revisited hobby (I was big into cross stitch in the 90s). Then, there seemed to be a resurgence of the craft so I thought I’d try my hand at writing a pattern.

Once finished, it measures 2″ W x 2 1/4″ H (stitched on 14 count Aida fabric). It’s a little design that gives a big message!

What’s more– Love to Sew frames nicely into a 3″ x 4″ or 4″ x 4″ photo frame, so no need for custom framing!

I framed mine in a 4″ square frame. I also had shown it off in a 4″ x 4″ shadow box on a corner shelf for a while.

It’s easily stitched by a beginner and is most certainly a quick finish. I think it’d be great also as a pincushion, Christmas ornament or a wall hanging.

Whether you’re new to cross stitch or have been stitching for years, and you love quilting and/or sewing, personalize it and make it your own with your favorite color combo. 🙂

Winter Woodlands Quilt Pattern

To end this year’s quilt pattern releases, I’d like to introduce my Winter Woodlands PDF pattern, now available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

Winter Woodlands is a nod to my best selling pattern, Wee Three Trees mini quilt. For quite a while I’d been thinking about making the mini into a larger version and here it is! Just think of it as Wee Three Trees grown up. 😉

For my quilt, I used Moda’s jelly roll Merry Little Christmas by Bonnie and Camille.

This collection is so festive and is a perfect choice for this quilt. I love the traditional red and green and that teal is also included.

Since the pattern is written for a throw size quilt (finishes 55″ x 60 ½”) you can make it all from a jelly roll, including the binding!

Winter Woodlands block made from Moda’s Evergreen Collection

I know I say it a lot, but my testers all agreed this is a quick make! It’s geared toward confident quilters; yet if you’re a quilter looking to build your quilting skills, give it a whirl.

It’s the perfect time with the holiday season upon us, so I hope you’ll get your copy and add a festive quilt to your home for this coming winter.

Big Tree & Little Tree Downloadable Templates

For several years, I’ve seen lovely appliqué projects but it wasn’t until recently that I decided to give one a try. Since the holiday season wasn’t too far off, I thought a small tree would be a cute idea for a decorative pillow.

Initially I set out for a pattern to download, but found nothing. I really wanted to give appliqué a whirl so I decided to make my own pattern (with recruited help from my daughter’s artistic hand.) 🙂

Before long, we came up with the Little Tree pattern. Shortly thereafter, for larger projects, the Big Tree pattern was created.

After researching how to appliqué and acquiring the necessary materials, I set to work. Once finished, I thought it didn’t turn out too bad for a first try!

Next up was to make something using the Big Tree template. Since it measures over 17″ high, I made two as a wall hangings (one for me, one for a gift).

To make them, I used the same plaid fabric, adhered a low-loft fusible fleece, added backing, quilted 1″ rows then ran a zigzag stitch around the edge.

Not only are they festive, they’re easy and fast! Think of all the things you could add to decorate them…buttons, bows, photos, ornaments—just about anything lightweight.

Another idea is to make a Big Tree project for advent or a Christmas countdown. I added cutout numbers to my finished plaid tree. Because the tree is generously sized, there’s plenty of room for attaching pockets for small advent gifts.

I’m convinced these versatile tree templates would make a great addition to your list of holiday project must-makes. 😉

You can purchase both templates together in one download from my Etsy shop.

Why not get your favorite holiday fabric ready and start a project today—I’d love to see what you create.

2022 Project Recap

It’s time to look back on 2022 and revisit completed projects, and in all there weren’t that many!

My first finished project was a wine bottle bag as a hostess gift; it definitely makes a lovely presentation when gifting a bottle of wine. It’s a really quick project that only requires a fat quarter and a ribbon! Download the free PDF tutorial here.

Next up is a pillow cover of a cute little lion. This is an easy project that can be completed in just an afternoon. The cover fits a 16″ pillow form. Lazy Lion pillow cover pattern is available for purchase in my Etsy shop.

My first 2022 quilt pattern releases were Pinwheels Galore Mini quilt and Pinwheels Galore quilt which is available in several sizes. Both patterns can be found in my Etsy shop.

Pinwheels Galore Baby Quilt

To celebrate Christmas in July, I released a fun and whimsical pattern called Christmastime. It’s a table topper or wall hanging, and it’s definitely a fun one to watch come together. And, the tree is constructed with no half square triangles!

If we want to talk favorites, I’d have to say my Stitches & Stars is up there. I made mine using fat quarters from the Elements collection by Art Gallery Fabrics. I just love this line and I think this pattern is a great way to showcase the beautiful jewel tones. Stitches & Stars comes in four sizes and is a popular choice among quilters. 🙂

Making handmade gifts for Christmas has become something I do year after year. In 2022, I made pillowcases and a darling Easter mini quilt for family members.

Lastly, I made a mini tree skirt for a new tree addition in my sun room. It’s also a quick and simple project and can be made in no time.

That wraps up 2022 projects. I’ve got plenty planned for 2023 so be sure to stop back! 😉

How to Make a Quilt Hanging Sleeve – A Quick & Easy Tutorial

I thought I’d start off the new year with a new tutorial. If you have a quilt you’d like to hang for display then this is just what you’re looking for…

I’ve created a hanging sleeve tutorial that’s easy-to-follow and chock-full of photos and tips. It’s also a PDF so it can be downloaded and referenced whenever needed. Even if you don’t sew with a machine, you could easily sew one by hand.

It’s also a quick make…only an hour or so and it’s done!

Stitches & Stars Quilt Pattern

It’s nearly back to school and for a lot of quilters that means back to the sewing machine! Just in time to kick off sewing season, I have a fun and quick pattern for you – Stitches & Stars. It’s now available for purchase as a PDF download in my Etsy shop.

Everyone loves the sawtooth star, don’t they? In thinking so, I’d decided it was about time to design a pattern highlighting this famously loved block. To give it a new and innovative twist, I added stitches around the blocks to create a defining, unique look.

My quilt shown is throw size yet the pattern is also written for baby, twin and queen sizes. I made mine using beautiful Art Gallery Fabrics Nature Elements in jewel tones for the stars, and from the same collection in gray for the stitches. I used Bella Solids Bleached White PFD for the background.

It’s also designed for a quick-sew in mind…the stitches are larger pieces strip pieced and chained pieced then cut smaller. The stars are made with flying geese, using the 4 at a time method. It goes together fast!

Here’s a look at tester’s quilts…

There are so many color version opportunities with this one, why not give it a try?!?

Lazy Lion Pillow Cover Pattern

My great nephew was about to celebrate his 1st birthday and I automatically went into ‘What can I make him?’ mode, because, of course, handmade gifts are always best. 😉 He loves watching the Lion King so I decided my lion mini pattern would make the perfect gift, but as a pillow.

I easily made some revisions to the old pattern by adding a thin border to frame the lion’s face and then I added outer borders to get the block to the size needed for the pillow form.

Here it is…

I’ve entitled it Lazy Lion because basically all lions are! It’s now available for purchase in my Etsy shop as a PDF download. The finished cover fits a 16″ x 16″ pillow form.

While the lion block is traditionally pieced, the eyes are raw edge applique and I did some basic straight stitch embroidery for the mouth. If you enjoy adding a personal hand-crafted touch to your projects, this one’s for you! And it’s easy enough for a beginner.

As another option you could replace the appliqued eyes with buttons, but I wanted mine 100% baby-proof, plus I like handwork sometimes, so I opted for applique. You could always quilt the front, too.

This lion block is fun to make, and it’s so versatile—you could make it into a mini quilt, a table topper, a placemat or make a lot of lion blocks and create an adorable quilt. The choice is yours! 🙂
